Cavegirl Q&A: Starchy Veggies, Cooked Nuts, and Travel

I read somewhere that starchy vegetables are bad, but you have them in your meal plan - are they okay? Someone told me that cooking nuts is bad. Is that true?

I've grouped these two questions together because the answer is the same - PICK YOUR BATTLES.

You're right starchy veggies are not ideal all of the time. In moderation, like what I have in this challenge 1/2 potato once in awhile or some sweet potato salad is totally fine. Same goes for nuts, ideally you want to eat them raw but baking them once in awhile is okay.

Earlier on in the challenge, I made a post with some guidelines. #1 - Pick Your Battles, is the MOST important. Don't worry about eating a starchy vegetable or some cooked nuts... the most important thing in the first few weeks is kicking the addiction to dairy, grains, and sugar. The starchy vegetables will actually help satiate some of these cravings. At the end of the day would you rather eat a sweet potato or something like bread, cheese, or sugar. The starchy veggie wins.

How do I prepare for travel?
Depending on where you're going and how you're getting there you might be up against some restrictions. I traveled to Asia a few times since I've switched to this lifestyle and did eat rice and dairy while I was there. I was staying at an orphanage both times and choices were limited.

That being said, if you're traveling under more controlled circumstances prepare yourself! Pack some meals to bring with you. If you are eating at restaurants remember to stick to the basics - no grains, no dairy, no sugar and stick with the P, F, C rule. CLICK HERE to review before you go-go!

*REMEMBER - You ALWAYS have a choice. Check out this post on the OPT blog for a great photo of what prep looks like and make it happen!

If you have any more questions please feel free to post to comments and I'll do my best to answer them! :)
